Religion is the cause of more wars than anything else?

Does it?

I think the religion on the whole breeds less tolerance, but I’m not sure it really is the cause of wars, people naturally seem to want conflict and religion is just a natural cause.

Anything that you can unconditionally believe in as an absolute truth is asking for trouble.  Especially when there are other people that unconditionally believe in their absolute truth that is contradictory to yours.

As a defiant atheist I find it hard to comprehend the concept of unconditionally belief, especially in a way that would make me violent enough to fight my neighbour.

Most religions in my limited opinion teach of tolerance and of peacefulness, but from the dawn of time those concepts seem to have been ignored when it comes to actual disagreements on the religion itself.

From the bible, “Thou shalt not kill”, from the Qur’an “And do not take any human being’s life - that God willed to be sacred”.  Unfortunately my lack of familiarity with other religions means I do not have quotes, but most religions seem to follow this premise.

So why, with these very basic concepts is the world determined to kill each other?

Is it religion or is religion just an excuse for violent people to be more violent?

This brings me to my second point.  Why do people feel that being religious, or in this area, attending church, make them immune from basic human courtesy?

I see so many people on a day to day basis that would sooner tread on a fallen person than offer them a hand up, but decide they are good people because they went to the church service on Sunday.

At least I am not the only person to notice this, http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/wales/north_east/7497411.stm

I wonder some days whether the various religious leaders should all get together and cancel religion.  Make people responsible for their own actions rather than following the teachings, but this would never work.

Some people require the moral compass.  Overall (once again from my limited knowledge) these teachings provide a good solid basis as to what is right and what is wrong, what is good and what is bad.  But is that moral compass worth all the killing?

Reminissing

Arrrrghhhh, I remember when……. of course you do!

For reasons that I can’t fathom I have taken to reading the comments people leave on news stories.  99% of them seem hell bent on how it used to be, not how it is now.

  • For gas prices, “I remember when it was only $1 a gallon, what happened?”
  • For youth culture, “In my day the teenagers were so much better behaved”
  • For driving, “People used to drive far more courteously”
  • For food, “Where is the fresh food we used to have, everything is packets?”
  • For cameras, “It only used to cost $3 to develop a film”

Why is it people seem determined that things should stay the same while still getting better?

Older people always complain about the younger generation, when I was young it was loud music, my grandfather hated it!  For food, you still have all the fresh produce that you’d have in the corner store, but now you have a huge megamart with fruit from the other side of the planet and products you can keep in the cupboard for a rainy day.

There is inflation, things cost more, but so do salaries.  People complain that everything has gone up in prices without realizing that they now earn so much more.

I wish people would stop looking back at the world through rose coloured glasses.  They should move with the times, here are a couple of things that have changed in peoples favour, that they seem to have forgotten.

  • Telephony, it used to cost dollars a minute to talk long distance or around the world, now it is pennys.
  • Computers are so fast that people take for granted that their cell phone now has more processing power than the first computers.
  • Cars travel faster with less fatal accidents thanks to seat belts and airbags.
  • Air travel is cheap enough that you can take a 2 week holiday on the other side of the planet, it used to take months just to get there.

The world moves on…. some people need to get over that.

Environmental Automotive

The environment and gas prices seem to be a hot topic at the moment, all around the world.  Here in the US fuel has quadrupled in price in the last 10 years, but the style of cars hasn’t changed that much.

There appear to be two different, almost fascist views about this energy.  There are the people who have decided that gas guzzling trucks are evil, all people should buy 800cc toy cars.  They undoubtedly use less fuel, but, that is only “per person”, not per application.

The opposite argument is “I like my big truck, screw the environment, I need it”, which is also true.  Trying to move around building supplies or furniture in a little car is just impractical so having that truck is a must.

What I find odd is the way neither of these crowds seem to see the rational down the middle approach.  I own a truck, it does about 17mpg on a good day, but at least once a week I have to haul something that I couldn’t do with a car.

My wife on the other hand drives a station wagon (estate car), it does 30+mpg and is perfect for driving around in.  I would like a 3rd car so I don’t have to drive around the truck all the time, but there is a lot of $4 gallons of fuel that I can get for the extra car payment.

It does seem a ludicrous that people in cities have pickup trucks, and people on farms expected to use Honda civics.  There is an application for all vehicles out there.

One of my big complaints though is the lack of evolution to environmentally more viable solutions.  I need my truck, and the truck needs to pull 8000lbs for the caravan, currently that requires a 5.3 litre engine.  Where is the hybrid for the truck so I can do the same activity with a 3 litre engine.  Flex fuel is an option but you sacrifice power because of the low octane.

Since people love there cars so much I think they should mandate a maximum size and efficiency for vehicles in cities, but outside the congestion shouldn’t matter.

And before anyone comments that that penalizes families, it might for a few who could get exceptions.  MOST families are 2 adults, 2 kids, maybe 3 kids and they can fit in a regular sedan.  A minivan is NOT needed for most of them, it is a convenience that people expect now.  For the families that have more kids than that should get an exception.

As for kids in cars, don’t get me started about how the kids don’t need a DVD screen each for entertainment, just because the parents don’t want to entertain the kids they waste 1 or 2 mpg in electrical gadgets!

Money thoughts

I just read the last post and it makes me sounds so bad, worrying about money when other people have to little.

I think it is just a scale issue though, I am not poor, I like to think of my self as fairly well off, but because of that my bills and obligations are bigger and I worry more about money.

In terms of business money, it isn’t so much my welfare I am worried about, if the business doesn’t make money then I can’t afford to employee the people I employee.  They all have families, school costs, medical bills, etc.. I take it as one of my responsibilities to ensure that they earn the money they need too.

At home, I carry a certain amount of debt to make my lifestyle affordable.  I do not live off the debt and most of it is very short term.  I have the mortgage and a car payment and few thousand dollars in credit card debt from the recent vacation, I just worry that with big bills, one missing pay check could cause me quite a lot of pain.

So I could live cheaper, but then why work as hard as I do to do that.  I just worry to much.

My wife and I had considered selling the house, buying a fifth wheel and a truck and just cruising round the country.  All I would need to do is earn enough to pay the day to day expenses as the house now would more than cover the cost of the camping set up, but I can’t figure out a way to do that while being on the road.

All I need to do is win the lottery.

Stress update

Can you cure stress by just pretending it isn’t there? :)

I had a productive weekend fixing things, a nice meal out Saturday and to much wine over the weekend and my stress has move to ambivalence.

By fixing the caravan I have alleviated some of my worries about personal finance, and I am doing some billing in the office to make me feel like the business has some money.  I still don’t think it is right but by doing that and drinking the wine I am definitely sleeping better.

I have debated finding a shrink but as I said in the other post, I am to cheap, I don’t think I need to pay someone money to discuss my concerns about money and why I am not sleeping, and I certainly don’t want any prescription meds because I hate them.

What I need to do is find a good drinking buddy who will listen, make outrageous suggestions and forget they heard it next day :)

Give me a screwdriver and I can fix anything!

I used to think I wasn’t a very practical person.  I could write computer software to track 2 dozen satellites and evaluate their performance, but give me a broken pipe and I would have to call a plumber.

Over the last couple of years though I have improved a huge amount.  I think this is because I am cheap.  Selling “services” I do understand the value of someones time, I charge customers by the hour, but I still find it hard to pay hourly for a simple job.

So I have fixed things and built things on my own.  Even the caravan this weekend, Last week I was worried about the better part of a $1500 bill to repair it.  I had to buy tires for it because I can’t make those, but I did manage to fix the water heater ($600 replacement) and the fridge ($250 repair), so I am very happy about that.

Here is a list of my accomplishments since my asshole builder decided to go out of business.

  • General Contractor to finish house
  • Ran cable in house
  • Hung lots of ceiling fans
  • Installed extractor fan
  • Installed under cabinet lighting
  • Made planters
  • Installed multiple power receptacles
  • Put down grass (ok so that is a work in progress)
  • Fixed leaking pipe in bathroom floor
  • Fixed A/C unit compressor
  • Put door in to basement
  • Built deck
  • Fixed caravan water heater
  • Fixed caravan fridge

To any practical person these may seem like simple things, but I see them as great achievements (and I can still write a mean piece of software too!).

Doctor Who!!!!!

Will he regenerate, is David Tennant out of a job?  Got to give Russell T. Davis some credit for a good cliff hanger.

I watched a few interviews this week where Tennant wouldn’t commit to a new series but did commit to 4 specials next year, and the radio times still lists him in the credits for next weeks episode.

Tennant or not????  Post Your Vote!

Stress level is up, Finances are down

For the first time in a long time I actually got up in the middle of the night and went to sleep on the couch.

This used to be a common thing, especially when we were building the house.  I was tossing and turning in bed for about 30 minutes and I didn’t think it was fair to keep disturbing my wife, so I went downstairs, put the TV on and curled up with a couple of cats.

I think/hope this sleepless is just money related.  After the caravan fun with the blow out I’ve started fixing it up.  It is a few hundred dollars for tires, a few hundred if I can’t fix the water heater, a few hundred if I can’t fix the fridge.  Then there is all the normal bills, they arn’t any bigger than usual, I just wish sometimes I could get a month off from them.

The business seems to have finally noticed there is a recession here, we are down about 30% on revenue the last 2 months, not enough to panic, but it is making us dip into some of the cash reserve we like to keep.  I should probably do a forecast as to how long that cash reserve can last.

I am also having chest pains again, my gut instinct tells me it is muscle pain, started yesterday working on the caravan and seems to have been aggrevated by sleeping on the couch.

I have/had a doctors appointment for tests on Thursday, but since I run out of meds and don’t want to get another 3 month supply before the doc decides to change them, I am trying to get the appointment moved and some temporary meds.

Kayaking the Delaware

Just had a great weekend kayaking and camping on the River Delaware.

I can highly recommend the Bulls Run state park campground near Stockton, NJ.  Clean, level site right on the river with spotless bathrooms.  No electric for the trailer, but who needs it camping.  From here we trucked up to Frenchtown and paddled back down, about 8 miles but the river was running about 5mph, so very little paddling was needed.  There were a few fun little rapids but nothing scary and a wier to play with near the campground.

I definately think we will be going back to do it again.

The only down side of the weekend is that the trailer seems to be falling apart :(  There is a small hole in the hot water tank, the fridge is stubborn and keeps turning itself off when on Gas, and on the way home we had a blow out on one of the tires.  Looks like it is going to be an expensive repair bill for all that this week.

Back home and back in the chastity belt

We just got back from a hectic Caribbean cruise. This one had a stop every day in a different port so there was very little time for relaxing if you wanted to actually see anything of the port. As a result I am as tired on my return as I was when I left.

It also didn’t help that when we got back the annoying neighbour was yelling abuse at us (at 11:20pm) and, when we ignored him, took to shining a laser pointer through the bathroom window at my wifes shadow as we were getting ready for bed. I’d had enough of him at this point and got in the truck and went down to have it out with him, but he was hiding and wouldn’t come out. My guess is he was drunk.

So off we went to the local police next morning, reported the whole lot. I explained that I didn’t really want to cause problems but he had crossed the line. The officer understood, told us with this and some other things we could cite him for harassment, the officer said he would explain this to the guy and tell him if we had any more problems he would cite him otherwise just behave. I thought that was a reasonable solution so now we will have to see what happens after the officer has been down there.

After all that, back to work.

Haven’t had much interest from my wife in playing around with the chastity belt so I decided I would play on my own for now, so I have had the belt on since Monday morning. I took the short penis tube out and replaced it with the longer one I made. This means I have to be more careful cleaning but it also means I don’t keep getting my balls tied round the bottom of the tube.

As a result of not messing much while away, and being locked for a couple of days I am definitely entering the kinky state of mind where I have lots of fantasies that are impractical. Hopefully wearing the belt will inspire the wife and she might work on some stuff too. We will have to see what she thinks.

I am struggling this time though with the width of the front shield. I am noticing it is getting in the way of me driving, especially hitting the break pedal without moving my hips. I am experimenting on quiet roads with left foot breaking. The shield is also rubbing my thighs a lot in this hot humid weather, I will need to see if I should put something on my legs to stop them being rubbed raw.

While I am in my Chastity Kinky mood I did come up with a potentially fun game. Basically set a point level for a hand job (Say 150), one for sex (300?) and some other larger point targets for really kinky things, like 3some (1500 points).

Then set up tasks for points, like wearing panties, 3 points, not wearing them, -3, providing oral sex, marks from 5-15 depending on her judgment, 5 points for a session with the riding crop. 3 points for washing and dressing her in the morning.

The result is that it would take about a week to hit the hand job level, two weeks or so to get sex, which should be the point of climbing off the walls. Then she gets to have lots of fun if I’d try to get to some of the big unattainable targets. It would take 10 weeks or so of torment and chastity to have a hope of getting to 1500 points! Or she could come up with some big points for some really impossible things, how about 150 points for going to the gym in the belt, lace panties and a bra?

What other point ideas could there be?? I’m sure the longer I spend in the belt the more ideas I could come up with :)
