10th Wedding Anniversary

Today is my 10th wedding anniversary, woohoo!

We had great plans to be somewhere for today, either Rome, or Paris, or at one point Macchu Pichu.  But with a combination of visits, work, and other commitments we are at home.  We will probably go out for a good dinner tonight.  (Hopefully we’ll do the trip in June when the weather in Europe is a little better)

10 years is the longest I have ever been with anyone except my parents.  In those 10 years we have be fortunate in the longest we have been apart has been a few days.  It is odd the way relationships change.

The first year of marriage we were exploring, getting to know each other, working out all the quirks.

By the fifth year it had settled down, there were very few surprises, we had settled in a house and day after day was similar.

At ten years we are starting to make more of the relationship.  We now know what the other likes and dislikes, there is very little checking with each other on things, but now we do things we would not normally have done.  For example, I can now book a vacation without her even having seen it, and know she will like it.

We have had our ups and downs but it has been a good ten years.  Friends have come and gone, and some come back again, other couples we know married and split.  With the rate of divorces, we are doing well.

I guess the bad news for my wife is, having survived ten years she is probably stuck with me for life!
